Welcome
I created this blog so I can show you photos of our house in Praia d'el Rey, along the Silver Coast of Portugal, about an hour's drive north of Lisbon. It also shows photos of the beaches around the area and the wonderful places you can visit.
The Resort
Praia D'el Rey Golf & Beach Resort is spread across 600 acres of land on the coast about one hour's drive north from Lisbon International Airport. The resort boasts a top class 18-hole championship golf course (considered one of the best in Portugal and Europe) and a beautiful pristine sandy beach which stretches for miles.
Apart from the excellent facilities associated with golf, there are 7 all-weather tennis courts, 2 of which can be used for team sports like volleyball and five-a-side football. There is a 5-star Marriott Hotel on site, with a gym and spa. A games room in the clubhouse is available for teenagers to use and there is a small playground for young children.
Our House
Our house is situated in the more established part of Praia D'el Rey Golf & Beach Resort, 5 minutes walk from the beach, the on site 5-star Marriott Hotel, and the golf clubhouse. Accommodation consists of a large living and dining area leading on to a sizeable terrace with barbeque, a fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 of which is en-suite, and 1 twin) all with their own balconies, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room and a large basement containing table tennis table and 2 extra single beds. The house is light and attracts the sun on the terrace in the morning and the front of the house in the afternoon. We share an infinity pool with other townhouses in our group.
Obidos
A romantic medieval town enclosed by the walls of a 12th century castle, which is now a pousada, is only a 15-minute drive away from Praia D'el Rey. Its picture-postcard cobbled streets are lined with whitewashed houses which are ablaze in the spring and summer with geramiums and bougainvillea. Fantastic views can be seen from the ramparts but walking along the walls is not for the faint-hearted. The town is host to a number of cultural events throughout the year, and a highly successful annual chocolate festival.
